Don’t miss our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 22 September, 7.30pm–9pm in Room 1 at the Cheese and Grain (accessible venue) in Frome.

We would love to hear from members who would be happy to be nominated for the Officer posts of Co-ordinator and Secretary. Please give some thought to becoming more active on our steering group. We are the only UK political party that works to protect the planet and the people on it. Now it is more important than ever.

Everyone is welcome to the AGM, but only Green Party members will be eligible to vote.

If you’re a member and unable to join in person, it will be possible to join online – please email contact@fromearea.greenparty.org.uk for details.

For those joining in person, after the AGM we will go for drinks at the Cheese and Grain bar – all welcome.

We hope to see you there!

Huge congratulations to Mayday Saxonvale – on 23 January Somerset Executive agreed to sell the Saxonvale site to them. Green councillors and supporters in Frome are delighted with the decision.

Frome East Green Cllr Shane Collins said: “Since Acorn’s unprecedented refusal in August to take up Somerset Executive’s offer to buy the Saxonvale site after overwhelming community opposition and details of Acorn’s financial past came to light, Somerset Executive have seen the light and agreed to sell to Mayday.

Somerset Executive’s decision to sell Saxonvale to Mayday represents is a huge victory for the people of Frome and progressive green development.

To paraphrase Churchill’s summation of the USA, Somerset Executive have made the right decision, having exhausted all other possibilities.

We look forward to Mayday’s community led development with 30% social housing owned by Frome Area Community Land Trust (FACLT) so the social housing does not fall under ‘right to buy’, as well as much needed work space and housing.  As one of four Green Councillors in Frome we are glad to have played our part in supporting Mayday over the years. We also look forward to a swim in the new Lido in a year or two and send best wishes to Mayday and FACLT in this innovative and inclusive new development.

This is the right decision for Frome which has overwhelming support from residents and a very effective local campaign with thousands of supporters.

We look forward to celebrating in town tonight. “

The Frome Hoedown group was set up and is managed by our very own Green Councillor Shane Collins. In return for the Frome community hoeing and weeding our streets, Somerset Council does not use Roundup weedkiller and gives us a chance to look after the place and meet the neighbours. And September is Hoedown month! The bees have had their fill of pollen; now is the time to remove dead foliage before autumn and tidy our town.

On Sunday 29 September from 11am to 1pm, Frome Hoedown will be out in Locks Hill, Rossiters Rd and Portway, as well as from the top of Hodder’s Close through to Hill Ground. If you want help with your street, or if you’d like to get involved, visit the Frome Hoedown Facebook group, or contact us.
